BOSS (to all of them): Now listen you fools. Life goes on. A man becomes pre-eminent; he’s expected to have enthusiasms. What are yours? What is that which gives you joy? What fills a man? Achievement. That’s it. Yet for us, it’s not individual achievement. They call us the outlaws. We call ourselves a team. Each and every one of us is part of a team. Do you understand what it is? Do you?
They exchange looks. Orc stares at Lobbo, still feeling angry for what just happened.
TOM: Teamwork.
Boss now looks at Tom, agreeing with what he says, before moving his eyes to the rest of the group.
BOSS: If the team fails, what is he? Follow me? No one. So, I get nowhere unless the team wins.
Orc does not look satisfied.
ORC: And what if one of the team members dies, does the team no longer live? Or do the remaining members work to get to the bottom of it, and ultimately, find the killer? The TRAITOR?
BOSS: We are getting to the bottom of it now. That’s the reason why we’re all here. Now, we know there is a traitor among us, someone who has had it all planned. To get rid of Matt. What we don’t know is the motive. Why did he do that? Why would he kill his own fellow? His own mate... a sworn brother.
They look at each other, suspiciously. The smoke from Boss’ cigar clouds the atmosphere in the room.
ACT 2
The cigar between Boss’ lips is much shorter now. The pressure is mounting and all five of them are getting more tensed.
LOBBO: This is really getting out of hand.
ERIC (to Orc): Orc, you are an educated man. Now, let me compliment you by being blunt. You seem to be guessing every possible tricky way to kill Matt. Guessing them on each and every one of us, except yourself.
