marriage/couple work. I interned for my MDiv (counseling) with the Salvation Army, Catholic Family Services and the experience has helped reinforce my belief in marriage/couple work. I work with a wide range of individuals with such diagnoses as trauma and abuse, bipolar, depression/anxiety, along
with couples dealing with relationship issues. An interesting area where I am developing competence is working with adults who were adopted as children. It has been an enriching experience. I am also looking to become a certified trauma specialist. My approach to counselling is informed by family systems theory, narrative therapy, cognitive and behavior therapy, experiential therapy, solution focus and trauma informed studies. I provide practical Christian-based services and counseling for clients who are comfortable with or requesting biblically-based counseling.

I am also a recently certified alignment- based hatha yoga teacher with a regular teaching post at a studio. I worked previously as a newspaper editor before making a big career switch to work
that felt more rewarding and tangible.
I interned with non-profit Council
for Relationships and the Institute
for Sex Therapy before moving into private practice with a focus on sexual minorities, premarital couples and affairs and sexual dysfunction. My primary perspectives/interventions are EFT,
CBT and Bowen. An area of interest is integrating yoga (asana and beyond)
and mindfulness into my practice, but first licensure this fall. – BRIAN S.

I am currently studying for
y MFT training in 1997 in Canada. I completed my supervision and clinical hours within the next few years, but worked for a health authority where I did
not have to be registered as an MFT. Instead, I was required to be registered as
a social worker. Rather than be dual-registered at that time, I held off. It wasn’t until I resolved to open my private practice three years ago that I finished my paperwork and registered as a Clinical Fellow, RMFT. I work full time in private practice above an obstetrics and gynecology office, and in my practice, I see many expectant and post-partum women and couples. I also work with other couples and some families, as well as providing some sex therapy and counseling with LGBTQ individuals and their families.

“I am in my final year of my MFT program and this past spring I completed the advanced certificate in addictions towards meeting CADC. This summer, I began my year-long internship program at a community clinic on campus.
I intend to focus on and work with
non-traditional households and the LTBTQIA populations. I am presently a coordinator of disability accommodations on campus, and am a certified rehabilitation counselor.
“ I am a doctoral candidate in the dissertation phase of the program. My dissertation is focused on the impact of sexual trauma on the sexual identity and intimate partner relationships of both clients and the therapists who work with them. I am currently an MFT Registered Intern studying for the second (and final!) licensing exam in California. I have experience working with adolescent and adult individuals, couples, families and groups in residential dual diagnosis substance abuse treatment, community mental health, and private practice settings. I mostly work with clients who have experienced sexual trauma and/
or intimate partner violence. I am a systemic thinker to my core and I’m very passionate about social justice, client-centered advocacy, and advocacy for the MFT profession in the mental healthcare market.
