Q&A
How can I donate and contribute to the organization?
AAMFT RESEARCH & EDUCATION FOUNDATION
The AAMFT Research & Education Foundation's activities are supported by donations from AAMFT members and the public, and from public and private sector grants and contracts. The AAMFT Foundation is listed with the IRS as a public charity and is governed by its Board of Trustees. Contributions can be made at the time you pay your dues,
by visiting the Foundation website at www.aamftfoundation.org/donate, or by sending a separate payment to AAMFT Foundation, 112 South Alfred Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Contributions to the Foundation are 100% tax deductible.
AAMFT PRACTICE PROTECTION FUND (PPF)
The purpose of the Practice Protection Fund is to pay for items related to serious threats to the profession; for major initiatives, particularly concerning threats to the MFT scope of practice; and for opportunities to advance the scope of practice. Payments to the
fund may be deductible as a business expense. However, IRS regulations
limit the deduction based on lobbying expenses. AAMFT has made great strides in claiming a place for marriage and family therapists in the behavioral healthcare market. Those gains, however, are being challenged. Various threats across the nation are real, pose severe challenges, and AAMFT is asking you to help in defending against those striking out against our profession by making a contribution at www.aamft.org/ practicefund.asp.
AAMFT POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE (PAC)
Congress consistently faces difficult policy decisions as competing causes vie for invaluable legislative attention. We want key elected officials to be fully aware of the needs of MFTs not just for today, but for tomorrow, and into the
future! To achieve this, we must proceed with a strong AAMFT-PAC. AAMFT-
PAC is a political action committee established by AAMFT to support federal candidates for elected office based upon factors concerning candidates’ support for policies that could assist the MFT profession. Only AAMFT members or their families who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents may contribute. Contributions must be from personal checks or credit cards. Contributions from corporations and associations cannot be accepted and will be returned. All contributions are voluntary, and you have the right to refuse to contribute without reprisal. Any guidelines for contributing to the AAMFT-PAC are merely suggestions, and an individual is free to contribute more or less than the suggested amount. AAMFT will not favor or disadvantage anyone by reason of
the amount of their contribution or their decision not to contribute. Federal law requires AAMFT-PAC to report the name, mailing address, occupation and name
of employer for each individual whose contributions aggregate in excess of $200 in a calendar year. Contributions to the AAMFT-PAC are not tax- deductible. Visit www.aamft.org/pac to contribute.
