whom on short notice submitted a very important amicus brief to the Texas Supreme Court regarding the devastating implications of threats to MFT licensure. CAMFT was the only mental health association willing to lend assistance to AAMFT and TAMFT. Also, “thank you” to the hard working members in Texas who have tirelessly worked to mobilize members in this very important legal matter and the Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards for also contributing to the cause by filing an amicus brief with the Texas Supreme Court. We eagerly await the outcome of these efforts in 2017.
AAMFT Research and Education Foundation
In 2016, 2,860 members contributed to the AAMFT Research and Education Foundation’s work; 2,800 through their dues renewal and another 60 through independent contributions. Volunteers on the Foundation Development Committee worked diligently to help the Foundation increase support
for its efforts. These hardworking individuals and those making contributions to the Foundation have helped improve programming such as outstanding keynotes at the Annual Conference, financial awards to MFT students, and engaging in strategies to help place the Foundation in a position of stability to advance its mission. The coming year will involve continued efforts toward financial sustainability so that we can provide programming raising public awareness of the profession.
Like those on an awards show, I cannot include everyone in my list of appreciation, but I must acknowledge the hard working efforts of the Ethics Committee, Judicial Committee, division leaders, and the Elections Council. Not recognized nearly enough, these members contribute to the overall well-being of AAMFT and are often placed in very challenging circumstances.
Thank you to the AAMFT Board of Directors for providing incredible support, wisdom, and encouragement. Their oversight and council helps to continue the advancement
of AAMFT and the profession. The Board never waivers
from attending to the core members of AAMFT, as well as maintaining a mindfulness that AAMFT is the only national association dedicated to advancing the profession of marriage and family therapy.
Last, and most important of all, thank you for being a member of AAMFT. The gains and advancements in 2016, as well as those efforts planned for 2017, would not be possible without your membership. Your dedication to the Association and profession helps to keep AAMFT a strong presence in the mental health landscape throughout the world.
