Since 1995, Mr. Raymond L. Delehant has held
the title of emeritus for the board of education in North Haven, Connecticut, where he also holds a permanent teaching certification. But of course,
that isn’t where it all started for Mr. Delehant. He prepared for his extensive career by attending Southern Connecticut State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1959 and a Master
of Science in 1964. Upon earning his undergraduate degree, he accepted a position as a junior high school science teacher in North Haven, Connecticut, where he would go on to work for more than 35 years.
From 1964 to 1972, Mr. Delehant worked part-time as a botany instructor for his alma mater, Southern Connecticut State University. He continued his education with the aid of grants from the National Science Foundation as a postgraduate at multiple universities, including the University of Colorado in 1965, the University of California Berkeley in 1966, and the University of Vermont in 1967.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Mr. Delehant has served on the science frameworks curriculum committee for the Connecticut State Department of Education since 1995 and became a Fellow of the Connecticut Academy for Education in Mathematics, Science and Technology, in 1996. Mr. Delehant
is a member and served as past president of the Connecticut Science Teachers Association from 1980 to 1986, 1995 and 1997. He was a member of and served on the Board of Directors for the Connecticut Science Teachers Association. Mr. Delehant has also served as editor for Connecticut Science Teachers Association Newsletter and Connecticut Journal of Science Education. Moreover, he was elected as
a Connecticut Science Education Fellow, October 2000 and given a Lifetime Achievement Award by Connecticut Science Supervisors Association in 2014.
