Middletown Main Street: Clean up and Cincinnati State grand opening
Below: Downtown Middletown didn’t suffer nearly as much ooding as many Great Miami River cities in 1913 because downtown is a couple of blocks ways from the river’s edge. Still, Middletown required a major clean-up effort, aided by a work train and large crane.
Middletown was a thriving downtown in 1913. Armco Steel had opened in 1900, and the city was home to six major paper companies. The US Hotel, Middletown’s oldest building, was just out of view on the right side. The hotel was established in 1831.
