Dayton: Requarth Lumber’s modern neighbor is the Dayton Dragons
Above: Lumberyards such as Requarth Lumber Company, a venerable business establishment in Dayton, were grateful that some lumber could be salvaged after the ood. Most of it, however, was swept away. Requarth’s location at the junction of the Great Miami River and the Miami & Erie Canal put the business in the path of one of the hardest hit areas of the ood. Rumor has it that lumber from the nearby Barney & Smith car company was discovered weeks later in the Mississippi River in New Orleans.
