Franklin:
Grand riverfront homes
Left: Curious onlookers in every city were drawn to the river to watch the water rise. Franklin citizens on Front Street, which today is known as River Street, looked across the ooded Great Miami River at houses in the area known as the Mackinaw Addition. Homes in this area saw almost 4 feet of water on the rst oor, while in downtown Franklin there was far less ooding. Most of Main Street was actually dry.
Right: Many magni cent 19th century homes were once commonplace in cities. Most have been lost to changing times, but 90 percent of the older homes in Franklin’s Mackinaw Addition are still standing.
