Protecting
Flooding no more
Fear of ooding is common across the country these days. Yet, people along a 70-mile stretch of the
Great Miami River—from Piqua to Hamilton—don’t share that fear.
Flood protection lets you live life uninterrupted. You can shop at your favorite stores. Visit local, state
and federal government facilities when you need them. Travel where you need to go on open roads and highways. Count on police, re and paramedics getting to you in an emergency.
Systems approach
MCD’s dams, levees and oodplains work together, reducing ood risk for:
• $7.3 billion in property value
• 47,000 properties in ve counties
and 21 municipalities
• About 60 schools and colleges
• 6 hospitals
• 814 miles of public roads
• One million people who live, work
and visit here.
The levee along the Great Miami River in Hamilton, Ohio, not only protects the city from ooding, it also serves as a community gathering place.
