Preface
 PREFACE
Malaysia's higher education system has evolved over the past few decades in which our education system has gained significant leap and transformation particularly in the areas of student enrolment, increased global recognition on key dimensions such as research publications, patents, and institutional quality, as well as becoming a prime destination for students from all over the world. These achievements are testimonies to the driving force and innovation of the Ministry of Education (MOHE). Despite the significant transformation, our education system needs to continue to grow and advance in order to keep pace with global trends.
Malaysian youths need to thrive in this complex and ever-changing future and preparing them requires fundamental transformation of a functioning higher education system. Therefore, many educators invest in high performing student database systems.
Admittedly, the world is now faced with a very large amount of data and there are billions of data termed as ‘data mining’ which requires high skills to compile, filter and analyse it. The inability of some universities to provide the maximum required data causes the university's ranking position to be in the lowest position compared to universities that are able to hold and exploit database technology. Database technology covering several related fields such as statistics; systematic analysis using the knowledge in this field of statistic and data is a way to obtain information under which each given data can be extracted therefrom.
This report aims to provide information on the intensity of Scopus bibliography database usage by all the Malaysian public universities, including the Citation & Infometrics Center (CIC). Four (4) key items or elements are used to measure the intensity of usage, and the data is provided by Scopus.
The total number of public universities involved in the data collection exercise is 20 plus Citation & Infometrics Center. Two indicators are being used as measurements against these items. They are the i) Average usage per month and ii) Compounded Average Growth Rate (CAGR). The coverage period is for 18 months, i.e., from January 2020 until Jun 2021. Therefore, applying these two indicators would enable us to measure the intensity of usage of each of these four (4) items over the 18 months.
