place are ideal places where these Firestarter packets can be used. Our testing proved that the packs burn super clean. We burned several packages while starting our char- coal chimney and found no obnoxious order or residue was left after the packet had burned out. We also placed one in- side our Weber Kettle grill to start our charcoal directly in the grill. Our results were the same as we found no harsh order or residue left behind.

Old Arthur’s Sauces and Rubs
Last month our front page featured the fantastic story of Arthur Watts and his family that has kept his recipes alive for over 160 years. We did not add
any information about these prod-
ucts to that story as we did not want to detract any attention away from the Watt’s story.
We were introduced to Old Arthur’s Barbecue Sauce during our 2020 Sauces of Honor. The mild version of their sauce placed seventh in the pork category out of 75 different entries. After sampling the sauce on the grazing table, we peeked at the label and knew we had to share their story. After getting additional samples of their sauces and rubs, we knew we had to share these re- sults as well.
We were fans of the two different sauces as soon as we sampled them during the Sauces of Honor event, but when we paired the sauces with the six different rubs they offer, we found some combinations that were fit for a king. We also noticed that every rub in the Old Arthur’s line pairs exceptionally well with both sauces they offer.
The Sauces
Old Arthur’s Original Barbecue Sauce is without question an American original. First crafted over 160 years ago, this unique combination of spices will please the most discrimi- nating taste buds. The sauce delivers several different touches of flavor without anyone being more potent than the others. Add them all together and you get a sauce bal- anced and ready to accompany just about any protein
imaginable. We enjoyed this sauce with every item we used it on.
Old Arthur’s Hot & Spicy Barbecue Sauce is the same recipe of the original but delivers a bit more heat. The heat is without question amped up but certainly not to the point of overtaking the other flavor makers found inside the sauce. We found this sauce paired well with beef.
The Rubs
Old Arthur’s Smokestack Dry Rub proved to be our favorite of the six different rubs. The salty-sweet mix went well on everything we cooked with it, but we also found it make
an excellent seasoning for our french fries, veggies, and eggs. Our overall favorite rub and sauce combination came from a batch of chicken thighs we rubbed with the Smoke- stack Dry Rub and then had the original barbecue sauce on the side. This will be our next chicken combination for any competition we enter.
Old Arthur’s Bootleg Dry Rub was an instant match for any steak. The mixture of bourbon, brown sugar and Kona cof- fee will take a good steak and make it great!
We honestly did not try any of the Old Arthur’s rubs that we thought were average. Our taste buds will indeed be getting more doses of these rub and sauce combinations very soon.
