Building The Sport Of Steak Cookoffs!
 We Are the Champions
Before you read this, que up Queen’s We Are the Champions. We are about to discuss the remarkable chases we witnessed this past year and the crowning of two champions. If you love food sport, specifically the SCA (and you do or you wouldn’t be reading this), then you know 2021 was a nail biter. Every month we would list the top ten and every month the names would shuffle and be replaced. Some of the names would be famil- iar while others would sneak on to the list and we’d scratch our heads wondering, “Where did they come from?”
The Hassell Cattle Company’s Ancillary Point’s Chase was a lot of fun to watch. Tona Pendray eventually stretched her lead to the point no one could overtake her, so the rest of the field shuffled around right until De- cember 31st. With the new emphasis on the ancillaries, Tona will have the designation of being the first champion. But in 2022, don’t count out the rest of the top ten, Kyle Matuszewski, Cathrine Noble, Will Collier, Bobby Oliver, Rylee Wright, Lori Davis, Whitney Hampson, Brandon Crain, and Randy McKnight to go for the ring in 2022. As you can see below, the new year is picking up right where the old one finished. It will be one to watch.
The ACE Hardware Steak Points Chase was even more exciting not even
knowing who the points champion would be until the stroke of midnight December 31st. Tim Brown will bring another ring home to the Brown household as he and Sandy become the first husband and wife to become champions. Not just this but doing it in back-to-back years. The rest of the field, including Sandy, who finished fourth, didn’t make it easy for Tim. Scott Nardi, Rusty Hadacek, Sandy Brown, Terry Roan, John Green, Ginnie Holmes, Jessica Barnes, Marty Plute, and Layne Holmes all did their best, right up until the end of the season. As you will see later, some of these same names are once again on the chase. Will there be a repeat winner, making history again, or someone new? Stay tuned here each month to watch the excitement.
Don’t forget to make your plans to be in Ft. Worth March 11-13 to see Tona and Tim crowned as points champs. Plus, you’ll witness the first ever Ancillary Championship Cookoff and see if Marissa Ouverson can repeat as the World Steak Cookoff Champion.
Event of the Month
You know that old saying, “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” That may be true in some cases but not for the Roll the Dice in Vegas steak
