ing 300 cooks choose 600 steaks would be quite a scene to behold. But because it’s such an undertak- ing they had to be
divided into A and
B groups then
sub-divided three
colored coded
groups just to get
everyone through.
As the crowd
awaited the
awards to start
there was a Chim-
ney Cartel exhibi-
tion contest with
the top points
leaders in the An-
cillaries and Steak
competing on the
newly unveiled
Cartel line. The
winners of the
first Chimney Car-
tel event were
Crystal Ford and
Dan Greenwood.
That evening the
top 10 of each of
the six groups received the honor of moving on to the top 63 which would lead to the Sunday’s world championship battle.
63 of the best steak cooks in the world gathered for the cooks meeting knowing one of them would
leave with a big check, a ring and the title of World Champion. As they stepped outside to choose their
steak, they knew the pressure was on to pick the winner but had to do so in 30 sec- onds or less. When the rub set- tled, and the smoke cleared Robby Staggs walked the stage to be forever rec- ognized as the 2019 SCA World Champion steak cook.
There is no way to capture the entire SCA World Cham- pionship in one little article as well as say thank you to all the peo- ple it took to make it a success
but thank you. Not only to those at the World Championship but all those who make the SCA a great success all year long. Here’s to another suc- cessful year and see you in Ft. Worth October 1-4, 2020.
