ing body it can be. They also are out at these con- tests getting to know the cooks, talking to the judges and listening to sugges- tions from everyone, keep- ing a finger on the pulse of the SCA. In doing this a new rule change concern- ing the competitors age. With more and more young people competing the deci- sion was made to allow (13 year olds) to compete under their own names now. This is exciting times for the SCA.
Leap Year Means
More Events
The cool thing about hav-
ing a Leap Year is we get an
extra day for some steak
cooks and WOW what a
cook-off it will be in
Brooksville, Florida. Event
promoter, Kitty Dolan, is
putting on a triple, yes you
read that right, a Triple on
February 29 through March
1st. Two days of hanging out, cooking, and just gen- erally having fun. If I know Miss Kitty, there will be plenty of smiles had by everyone and not just her, who generally has one every time I see her. In addi- tion to the three steaks there are two ancillaries that can be a bit of a challenge, Chili and Spam. This is going to prove to be a great way to celebrate some- thing which only happens every four years.
Business Partners
Coming on as partner a couple years ago, Republic Whiskey out of Austin, Texas is a part of the Drip-
ping Springs Distillery. Its flavor is as unique as the Texas shaped bottle in which it comes. Made from corn, rye, a bit of barley, and Hill Country rainwater, Republic Whiskey has rich notes of oak and vanilla fading into dark cherry with a bold finish like a West Texas sunset. As many of us can attest to from the World Champi- onship, it goes down smooth both neat or on the rocks and pairs very well with a great ribeye. As with all of our business partners, we are thankful to Republic Whiskey for being a part of the SCA family.
ACE Hardware Points Chase
Ever since the close of the World Championships back in October the points race has been close. So close, in fact, they leader board is changing dramatically
every week. We are currently 8 months away and the leaders are on pace to break the points record set by Champion Matt Ouverson just this past year. Tenth place, Terry Roan, is only separated from first place, Sandy Brown, by a mere 23 points while second place, Layne Holmes, is only three point behind Sandy. Not only could they break the points record only in place for a year, but we could see our first fe- male World Champion. Only time and steaks will tell.
