We are the Minnesota Home State team for The Jack! This is it for every competitor on the circuit: The Jack. This is the dream we all have, and it’s been mine for most of the past decade. To have this experience hanging with some of the best cooks in the galaxy is just an unparalleled feeling; my anticipation is unbridled and palpable. I’m a bit nerv- ous about the commute since I probably won’t have had any sleep the whole week prior! I am humbled. A win got us a bung; we got damn lucky having it pulled; there’s no other way to say it. Tom and I will walk among legends on parade representing Minnesota in Lynchburg, I sure hope we don’t trip!
Tom and Jim became fast friends with a shared passion for BBQ. And sammiches. And sushi. And...well, you get it. So one day, Jim was a recently minted Mike Lake judge. Then he and Tom got to talking about BBQ and then Tom went and saw Mike too. Those first bites of competition BBQ had no prior equal, let alone what culinary wonders awaited them, and they headed down the trail for a bit of sampling some of the best food ever created. Cooks at heart, these friends coalesced in 2014 as co-pitmasters. Today, Tom runs the small meats on Gateways, Jim cooks brisket and pork on a Jambo. Working in harmony and bal- ance; each with their tasks, talents, and penchants. They coalesce. Team.
KCBS World Invitational November 11th-14th 2021
Coming up on November 11-14, 2021 is the 3rd annual KCBS World Invitational in Shawnee, OK. In order to qual- ify, teams must have won a Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion from January 1st, 2019 through August 1st, 2021. With more than a hundred teams already signed up, it promises to be a great showdown. There are quite a few teams from the Minnesota area that are eligible for the invite. Here are a few of those teams that are qualified to attend:
