Independence Day 2020 cer- tainly has brought delivered a deeper understanding of what true freedom is. Of course, while thinking about this ulti- mate gift we have as Ameri- cans, I had to compare it to my BBQ world. The following are a few similarities between being an American and being an avid barbecue fan.
Does anyone actually know how many different BBQ sauces we have commercially available here in America? I am guessing no but would love to be proved wrong by someone producing a re- motely accurate number. Those uncountable number of sauces exist because Americans are free to choose. I have a favorite beef sauce and a favorite pork sauce. Choice is a gift of freedom and I am thankful like never before for that gift that has been granted to all Americans.
Does anyone know how many different types of grills are being sold in America today? That answer again would take a ton of re- search and still could be incorrect due to some small independ- ent manufactures. Yet all of these different grills are being made because of Americans can choose which grill or pit they want to cook with. Pellets, stick burners, gas, charcoal, or griddles are very commonplace in any town today, but imagine what it would be like if you couldn't choose.
These were just a few things that came to mind during the recent quarantine time due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Some choices became very limited and a few of my usuals turned into wishful thinking.
Just remember never to take this gift of freedom and choice for granted. After the recent ordeals our great country has faced, we should all be making the best choice possible to preserve what we have.
