When you think about the recent changes that our BBQ and grilling world has experienced over the past 18 months, you almost have to smile. The recent global pandemic helped our industry almost double in size and now these new comers, to our beloved past time, are hun- gry for more.
I did some research while ques- tioning a few of my BBQ buddies about what the upcoming year might look like for the #BBQfamily. Here’s my list of the top five BBQ
and grilling trends that we could see happening next year.
1. Meat Prices Will Continue To Rise:
The current retail prices that we are paying for meat now will not drop drastically in 2022. The demand on the current supply chain system is over stressed and it will take 12-18 months before we see any effects from some of the changes being made now to correct the current situations.
2. Pellet grills and cookers will continue to grow in popularity:
A ton of new comers to the BBQ and grilling lifestyle are looking hard now at their next cooking device. Most of these beginners started with the less expensive equpipment but now they are ready to upgrade and I firmly believe over half will turn to some form of pellet cooking device as their upgrade choice.
3. Less alcohol:
Virgin cocktails have been growing in popularity for a while inside the restaurant community. This year I expect to see this trend come to our backyards and tailgate parties.
4. Lots of Farm to Market direct stores are coming:
Here in South Georgia we have witnessed several locally sourced and farmer owned meat markets come to life. Every one we have witnessed has been very popular and most are currently looking to expand on their current success.
5. More restaurants will be utilizing wood fired grills:
The recent expansion of backyard BBQ and grills will flow over into the restaurant world. I also expect we’ll all see the BBQ flavor trend expand- ing in the fast food world during the summer of 2022.
Happy New Year to you and yours from all of us here at Barbecue News Magaine! 2022 is here and we are ready to smoke like never before. How about you?
Until Next Month...Keep It Smokin'
