Building The Sport Of Steak Cookoffs!
HAPPY SCA NEW YEAR!
All the parties are over except some of the clean-up. There are a few college football games still to watch, but overall, it’s time to take this new year by the horns. As you are reading this, we’ve already handed out a few golden tickets for both steak and ancillary winners. This new year will see many events and many golden ticket winners as we all chase after the championship rings in 2023. This new year will be exciting as we crown the points champions for steak and the ancillary, both of which took on a new look this past year.
The wonderfulness of the new year is that it is just that, brand new. A clean slate full of new goals, new adventures and new challenges. As you sit here thinking about your New Year’s resolutions, perhaps to lose weight or finally fix the gutter out back, have you considered some SCA resolu- tions? Such as the amount of cookoffs you plan to enter this year. Maybe make the SCA New Year resolution of cooking in the ancillary categories. How about deciding to take up the challenges offered by some of the promoters such as cooking that NY Strip contest or on a chimney? Here’s a resolution I think we could all get behind, bring a friend to a cookoff. A friend who has expressed interest in knowing more about what happens. You can even take it a step further and pay his/her entry fee or the entry fee of a streak cook who just can’t make it this time.
However you decide to take on this brand new year, we hope it is full of blessings and look forward to seeing you in March at the world championships.
Event of the Month
One of the great things about an SCA event is they are a wonderful way to raise money for charities, communities and help people who need it. Our cooks always show up in support and now we have an opportunity to show up for one of our own. As many know, SCA Rep. Danny Kennedy contracted COVID 19. He is suffering from complications of this and has many medical bills as a result. This event will take place in Byhalia, MS at Mark Lambert’s Sweet Swine O Mine Distribution on January 8th. If you have questions contact Mark, Kandis Rodgers or Carol Burdison.
Business Partner
Our business partners continue to support the SCA and making it a successful sanctioning body. One such partner is Best Damn BBQ Sauce. Mike White and his Pacific North- west team continue to develop flavors which are taking the BBQ scene by storm as they continue to win awards. If you haven’t gotten your hands on a bottle yet, then you need to visit their website as they do ship all over the country. Mike started this company only a few short years ago out of frus- tration as he looked in the refrigerator for something to put on his eggs. This is a great grassroots company skyrocket- ing to the stars and we are extremely proud to have them as a business partner.
Hassell Cattle Company Ancillary Points Chase
As you can see the points have really spread out as we en- tered December. By the time you read this all the dust would have cleared and we’ll have our champion to crown
