Obituary
Gaynor Waters Greenage, 89, of Stone Mountain, Georgia died
peacefully on November 16, 2020. A Maryland native, Gaynor
was a graduate of Morgan State University and Penn State
University (Cum Laude). She taught in the public schools of
Denton, Maryland for 34 years. Morgan State University cited her
as a Civil Rights Pioneer and awarded her Honorary Doctor of
Laws.
After retiring, Gaynor and her husband, Robert F. Greenage, Sr.
moved to the Atlanta area and became active members of St. Philip
A.M.E. Church and its Seniors and Retirees Ministry.
Gaynor Greenage was initiated into the Alpha Gamma Chapter,
Morgan State University, of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. April
2, 1949. Upon moving to Atlanta she became a member of the
Decatur Alumnae Chapter. She loved to travel and had passport
stamps from 33 different countries. Gaynor Greenage was an
active member of the Hidden Hills Civic Association and carried
the Olympic Torch in 1996.
Gaynor was preceded in death by her husband Robert Greenage,
Sr. Those who cherish her memory include: her sons, Robert F.
Greenage, Jr. and Derrick Kevin Greenage; daughter, Audrey
Greenage Perry; and, grandchildren, Marquia Greenage,
Johnathan Greenage, Ashley Perry, Brandon Perry, and E’lon
Sanders.
Delta members near and far mourn the loss of Soror Gaynor
Greenage, but hold dear the memories, lessons, and examples of
sisterhood, scholarship, and service that she left with us.
