THE 4 METHODS OF TESTING LEVEL OF SIGNIFICANCE

1. LSD Test –- Least Significant Test
2. Scheffe’s Test
3. DMRT Test – - Duncans Multiple Range Test
4. SNK – - Student -Newman Keull’s Test
5. HSD Test - - Honestly Significant Difference test

Pair Comparison of Treatment Means are of TWO types:

1. PLANNED PAIR COMPARISON- a specific pair of treatments to be
compared was identified before the start of the study. Examaple is
comparison of control treatment with the other treatments.
2. UNPLANNED PAIR COMPARISON…..No specific comparison is
chosen in advance. Instead every possible pair of treatment means is
compared to identify pairs which are significantly different.

LEAST SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE TEST)

 one of the simplest step and the most commonly used by researchers
to compare treatment means pairs
 Procedure is simple and applicable to various field experiments
 It uses the t table to determine the significant mean difference
 Limitation – it is used only when the means compared are few. Not
exceeding five (5)
