Choose an ice breaker that provides an opportunity for participants to see and/or hear each other and to be present.
Practice multipartiality. Some examples:
Be conscious of group dynamics: Who is speaking most? Who
is taking up air time? What narratives are being forwarded? How are we bringing in counternarratives as moderators of the meeting?
“I hear all the people from the East region / the men / the people with this perspective speaking, I’d love to hear from somebody with a different perspective.”
In thinking about who is in the meeting (voices, identities, etc.) and who is not, what questions can you ask / pre-reading / pre- work can you and participants take on to make sure counter narratives are included.
The very act of recognizing the dominant narrative can be a helpful starting point.
