Hey, New Professionals! It’s Your Time
In a year of ambitious strategic initiatives, one of the most exciting endeavors for OPTA is the launch of the New Professionals Special Interest Group (SIG) . Adopted by the Board of Directors earlier this year, our new “NP SIG” (as I like to call it) seeks to provide a forum for communication among New Professional—zero to five years post-graduation—physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in Ohio. The timing for our
NP SIG couldn’t be better, as millennials now represent
We learned a great deal from our Career Starter
Dues Task Force a few years ago, most notably that our young professional members have unique wants and needs outside of those of our more seasoned members . This group will essentially form a bridge from our student members to those starting their careers and aligns with the OPTA Career Starter Dues Program (CSD) . The CSD program enables student members that renew within six months of the expiration of their student membership to get 50% off dues first year post-graduation. The discounts continue: second year post-graduation dues savings of 40%; third year post-graduation dues savings of 30%; and fourth year post-graduation dues savings of 30%. You can’t even find these savings on Amazon!
The board has appointed Drew Snyder, PT, DPT as Chair of the new group, which held its introductory meeting in August . On the agenda for the NPs is to set goals and objectives, rework Policies & Procedures and determine an overall direction for the group .
the largest segment of the APTA membership .
We have spoken with our friends in Florida who boast a very successful NP group, growing from 10 members at its inception, to more than 200 members today . OPTA also looks to develop programming to specifically meet the needs of this group, potentially including financial wellness and build your brand workshops . As always, we want to hear from our NP members—How can OPTA help you as you begin your career?
The NP SIG provides a great opportunity to nurture future leaders of OPTA, whether it's district-specific positions, as a delegate or a future board member . It’s important that we build consistency in our mission and branding of our association to ensure long-term sustainability .
Let’s do this!
