The University of Dayton hosted its annual Doctor of Physical Therapy Research Symposium and the 15th Annual Stuart Lecture Burnout in Physical Therapy: Addressing the Elephant in the Room.
Justin W. Berry, Physical Therapist Assistant Program Director Northland Community and Technical College East Grand Forks, MN spoke to 134 attendees, followed by the students presenting their research findings.
Our next meeting will be on August 23rd with Jess Barhorst Smith presenting an exciting update on Ankle and Foot Biomechanics hosted at her new private clinic, STANCE PHYSICAL THERAPY, in Oakwood.
We are looking forward to talks by Dr. Matt Day and Dr. Rob Wainner this fall in addition to hosting several community events (food drive, GO-Baby-GO) in honor of Physical Therapy Month in October.

The first half of this year has been a busy and productive year for the district. We are starting to get back to normalcy and have learned how to be flexible within the past two years. We have been able to offer in-person events such as PT Pub Nights planned by our fearless students at the University of Cincinnati and Mount St. Joseph, or virtual events including Physical Therapy Throughout the Cancer Continuum with Jennifer Bernstein, PT, DPT, Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Oncologic Physical Therapy. If you weren’t able to join us for this event, we have placed the webinar in OPTA’s on-demand catalog.

Aside from this, we are very happy to be able to get involved with our PT and PTA programs in the district. Our talks have included the Benefits of Belonging (Anna Lynd at Mount St. Joseph), the PT Compact, Power in Numbers, the Early Professional SIG (Kelsey Biller, at UC Clermont), OPTA Involvement: Support through the Professional Lifespan (Kelsey Biller, at MSJ), and Advocacy in the PT Profession (at UC). We hope with all the activities offered you can find an event that is appealing to you.
Other than the actual events we have hosted, we have also been busy filling vacant positions on the district board. I am happy to say that we have a district board that is fully staffed. Thank you to all our past board members and their long-term
commitment to the district. Also thank you to everyone who has stepped up to volunteer to help. I am really looking forward to seeing what the district has in store in the future with all the new and fresh ideas from our new board members. Having said that, there is always room for more help and volunteers. If you are interested in helping with the district or have ideas for the district, please reach out to me.
We have a lot of fun networking events coming up over the next part of the year. Please check out the website or follow us on social media for more upcoming events. We hope to see you there!
