Membership Committee Report Sabrina Kaminski, PT - Chair
Do you provide others with insight into what the plethora of benefits being an Ohio Physical Therapy Association and American Physical Therapy Association member are? Have you heard of the ONE by ONE APTA Member Referral Campaign?
Bottom line, when you talk to a potential member and he/she activates a new membership have them enter your email address as a referral (make sure it is the email address linked to your membership) .
You will get you entered into a monthly drawing for a free year of APTA membership; the recruit also gets entered to win an APTA Passport to Learning . The more professionals you educate and steer to become members, the more opportunity you have to win .
Student SIG Report Carolyn Hinkle, PT, DPT – Chair
Go to the membership tab on the APTA website for tools and more information as well as additional prize offerings .
The OPTA is a participating chapter in this event which means you could potentially have one free year of APTA membership as well as OPTA membership! This campaign will end in September . Don’t miss out on this added bonus!

The Student SIG board and members have been working to enhance the value of membership through new goals this year: to increase information sharing and online presence, conduct expert interviews and create video content to bring information to students in a new way, and develop exciting updates to our annual student activities .
 40 | March 2020 | OPTA
SSIG monthly conference calls have successfully transitioned to video meetings and have included informative interviews and excellent discussions on topics pertinent to students, such as: residencies and specialty areas of practice, professional growth, OPTA and APTA involvement, conference experiences, and the transition from new graduate to practicing clinician . All student members
are very welcome to join these SSIG calls . The Students page of the OPTA website and our SSIG social media accounts are great resources for more information; please connect with us online!
In recent years, PT and PTA programs around
the state have competed in the annual Student Volunteer Challenge, logging volunteer hours
to increase SPT and SPTA community outreach . Cleveland State University was last year’s
winner, but this year the stakes are raised with
a new contest for the “Program of the Year” title. Volunteer hours are still highly encouraged, while other student activities that set a program apart can also be considered for points . There is a $250
prize for charity donation, as well as a new trophy and bragging rights on the line . The PT/PTA Program of the Year will be announced at Transform 2020, where the Student SIG will also be celebrating a new event in partnership with the Early Professionals SIG . We hope you will join us for the fun!
The time is already approaching for our current
student leaders to pass their duties to a new SSIG board, and your votes are needed! “Meet the Candidates” information can be found in the Student SIG Elections tab on the OPTA website . Voting is open March 25 – April 24, 2020 . Students will receive voting information by email and be able to cast ballots directly from
the link included . Please plan to attend the Annual Conference Membership Meeting on Saturday, April 25 for the announcement of student election results!
To the Student SIG board, school representatives and student members – thank you for your wonderful work this year and your continued dedication to our profession!
