 SELECTING CABINETS FOR YOUR REMODEL
SPECIAL FEATURES can personalize your kitchen to best meet your needs. Define what you can't do without and what just might be worth the splurge!
THE CHOICE IS YOURS A major part of the aesthetic of your kitchen remodel lies in the cabinets you choose. There are three main
categories for new cabinets, varying in styles, price points, and materials. Know your options.
CUSTOM are built by a skilled cabinet maker or carpenter who works with the layout and size of the room. Materials chosen and the quality of the cabinet maker affect the price, but the end result is cabinets expressly made for YOUR kitchen. Choices in different woods, glass, or metal create limitless possibilities, and the expertise of central Ohio cabinetmakers is unmatched.
SEMI-CUSTOM is a viable option. Larger manufacturers that build stock cabinets have created a process to make small modifications to their stock cabinets. Doing so allows them to offers some of the benefits of true custom-built cabinets at a lesser price point.
STOCK utilizes standard designs, sizes and trim pieces with limited selections of material and finish types, with a typically quicker ETA. The biggest benefit is cost savings, but they don't offer as many design and finish options and must fit within the existing space.
FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION. Defining how you will use your kitchen, what essentials you have, need and want in your kitchen design will help you choose cabinets that work for you!
PAINTED OR STAINED? It is a big decision, with pros & cons to both. It depends on the cabinet type, the design style, and the benefits or challenges for both.
REUSING OR REPURPOSING: AN ALTERNATE TO NEW
If your cabinets are solid wood and in good shape, reusing them can be a feasable option. Updates to consider:
• Replacing doors & drawer fronts • Refinishing with paint or stain • Replace hinges, knobs & pulls
• Soft close drawers and doors are a top-of-the-list option. No one loves the sound of cabinets banging closed.
• Knob, pull & hinge options are endless. Showcase your style, create a mood, add some bling or stay traditional.
• How do YOU cook? Design storage for all your needs:
• spice drawers that slide out • hinged lifts for mixers or
small appliances
• pull-out pantry shelves • spaces for baking sheets • deep drawers for pots
 PAINT
• Creates a crisp, clean look
• Conceals characters of wood and creates a sleek uniform finish
• Best for white or bold dark colors
• Paint is easy to wipe clean
• Custom color or matching the sheen make touch-ups difficult

STAIN
• Allows the grain and natural character of the wood to show
• Highlights the beauty of natural products and the variations provided by the growth process
• Not monolithic in color or tone
• The finish wears better than paint
