“I grew up in Oak Park and like many of us, after college, I returned to my hometown to raise my family. When
I started my business, I wanted to keep it in the Village that I love.”

Candidate,
Oak Park Village Trustee
RESPONSIVE GOVERNMENT
The Village Board should act on behalf of the residents and our small business community in Oak Park. We will work to implement a formal Community Engagement Process, in partnership with village staff, to leverage feedback from commissions, residents, and small business owners.
This process of intentional community engagement will ensure that the Board truly hears all of our voices – not just the loudest voices on Facebook.
With the pandemic and the growth of online retail and rising property taxes, we risk losing these small businesses, which are the backbone of our local economy.
As Oak Park begins to recover from the pandemic, the Village must act to retain and relaunch existing small businesses, adapt infrastructure and pass ordinances that support and regulate the growing gig economy, and recruit new businesses – particularly woman and minority-owned businesses – to fill the gaps left by the pandemic.
This year, property taxes are projected to make up 51.7% of Oak Park’s General Fund revenues. We can ease that tax burden by investing in existing small businesses while welcoming new ones to our community. A thriving and vital business community in Oak Park will attract customers – and their tax dollars –from neighboring communities.
Let’s shift the tax burden away from Oak Park residents and at the same time support small businesses.
