On my first clinical my Clinical Instructor instilled in me the importance of membership in our professional organization . I respected her and followed suit not really knowing what that meant . For years I paid my dues, reading some of the research articles between classwork . Once I transitioned into a professional membership, I attended more local meetings though still oblivious to everything that the professional organization and members within it do . The more involved I became the more the iceberg started to show . The time and energy placed into the legislative component alone is immeasurable; meetings with legislators, gathering research and providing testimony, and monitoring for related bills that could impact our profession . Then there are all of the special interest groups—whether you are a new professional or a seasoned therapist there is a group that will appeal to you . It is truly amazing what our members and the staff at the OPTA do to help protect
and grow the profession . I challenge you to dig a little deeper and join a fellow member into an aspect of the OPTA that you have not explored .
