It has been quite a summer!!
Your OPTA leaders have been busy this spring and summer! During our retreat, we finalized the planning for the OPTA L .I .F .E . Series Leadership Academy! The excitement was palpable in the room as we worked on the details for this exciting and unique member initiative . We are investing in
our most important asset – our members – to enhance their leadership qualities in order to for us to live out our mission to transform society! We are excited for our first cohort and look forward to many more to come!
Then it was on to the APTA House of Delegates and Component Leadership meetings in Chicago . In my 27+ years of being
part of APTA, I don’t think I have felt more optimism, passion and determination than I do right now! We are faced with challenges from external stakeholders, mounting student debt and reimbursement that is not equivalent to our value . Our national association is not shying away from these challenges and have made them top priority . We have positioned ourselves well to collaborate with other healthcare professionals that only a few short years ago, would have been considered adversaries . We really are #bettertogether! APTA has unveiled
a new branding that will bring us into our first centennial as
a profession! Look for events at the state and national level
to celebrate and recognize this milestone in our history . The House passed an extraordinary number of motions related to everything from contemporary social issues to affirming our commitment to diversity and inclusion . We even had a surprise flash mob dance to celebrate the 50th year anniversary of our PTA colleagues!
Here in Ohio, we are working to achieve our strategic goals for the year . First, to launch our leadership initiative that is a direct result of our member survey . We also continue to support our early professionals and our EPSIG . They have so much energy and great ideas! If you are a new grad this year, reach out to our EP SIG Chair Drew Snyder, Victoria or me to be added to this group! We are also actively pursuing opportunities to collaborate with other healthcare professionals on healthcare issues important to Ohioans such as access to care and the opioid crisis . Finally, we are exploring opportunities within telehealth and joining the licensure compact .
If you have an idea or would like to be involved with any of these initiatives, please let me know! We are more influential with all of us than with any single person! There’s so much going on and a place for all of us to be involved with this profession that we chose!
