OPTA #MemberBenefits: Revisited
It’s been a while since we talked about OPTA member benefits. It seems that association members always associate member benefits with “discounts.” Discounts are great, and a true perk of belonging, but is that the true value? Having spent almost my entire career with member organizations (except for my seven-year stint at the Statehouse—hey, I was young!), I would argue that the true value of a professional association lies with the members that belong .
We know there’s power in numbers, especially on the legislative front . But there’s also power in an established framework of your peers—peers that can help you problem solve and determine the best course of action professionally when needed . You don’t have to operate in isolation or reinvent the wheel, and your professional association can be the best resource of human capital available to you .
Sure, we have benefits that can save you 15% on this or that or do a discount double check when you travel, but we also have the intangibles that can help you be a better practitioner, a more informed physical therapist, and a support system for your
colleagues when needed . Whether it’s answering your payment policy questions, providing legislative and regulatory guidance, offering a top-notch leadership program, or connecting you with folks in your district/ practice setting/career stage, we have you covered .
Years ago, someone told me that professional associations provide “career nourishment.” Indeed.
