Renovations at the State Fire Marshal’s Of ce
With the support of Governor John R. Kasich, the Ohio Legislature and Commerce Director Jacqueline T. Williams, the Division of State Fire Marshal (SFM) is undergoing a renovation project that aims to improve environmental systems, security devices and complete needed upgrades to several parts of the build- ings on the SFM’s campus. The capital improvements are based upon the facility’s needs and are designed to make the buildings more efficient while utilizing growing technology.
This project includes:
1. Removal and replacement of inefficient and mechanically/financially burden- some heating and ventilation systems
2. Improvement of security and safety of staff and guests by integrating new technology
3. Resurfacing acres of hard surface roadways and parking areas
4. Renovation of the kitchen that serves guests, students and staff
5. Major upgrades to the forensic lab work spaces, including:
a. Removing current hardware installed in the 1970s
b. Creating new rooms for explosive analyses, fire debris extractions and latent
print processing
c. A new digital evidence lab
For visitors to the SFM office between now and the end of July 2017, please expect altered parking options, cordoned off areas and alternate egress patterns. The improvements made today will extend the life of the buildings and allow the SFM office to continue meeting its goals of education, safety, investigation, inspection and environmental regulations for years to come. u
