A Note from the Executive Director
Victoria Gresh, CAE
2018 is the Year of the PAC!
You may have heard your phone ding and thought it was a text message from a friend It was! OPTA has launched our 2018 Political Action Committee (PAC) Campaign, and we have an ambitious goal--$25,000! Originating from the 2017 OPTA Board of Directors strategic planning session, the OPT- PAC was identi ed as a speci c tactic
How is OPTA approaching this campaign?
It’s going to be fun! We’ve broken up the campaign by
quarter, to provide both variety and incentive. Our rst quarter campaign, launched in January, goes straight to the heart of the board initiative—we’re asking for $10 per therapist We added “10 Reasons to Give,” which is a mix of humor and sincerity, to provide added incentive for our members who
are on the “maybe” side of the decision. April begins the rst
of our two sports competitions, “Indians vs Reds vs Neither,” where members can donate to their baseball team of choice (or not) to see which team shall reign supreme In July, you’ll receive a message about our “District Competition,” where you’ll be asked to contribute by district and can view the District Leaderboard to see which district is in the lead Finally, we’ll round out the year with our second sports competition, “Browns vs Bengals vs Neither,” where maybe one football team will win the competition, or not (Maybe my Browns can win that one...)
How can OPTA members make an impact?
We are asking OPTA members to step up this year and donate more than once Our goal is ambitious, but attainable As we have said many times at OPTA, “If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu ” Let’s enjoy our dinner!
For more information on the OPT-PAC, listen to the
OPTA podcast (Ohiopt.org > Advocacy > OPT-PAC > Training Module: OPT-PAC Podcast) with our PAC Chair Heather Schradin
as part of our goal of advocating for health and governmental policies that advance PT practice OPTA has partnered with MobileCause to enable us to directly contact our members via text message to bring awareness to the need for contributions Simple to use, we text you, you text the code, and you can immediately donate to the advancement of your profession
Why is this important?
As you know, the OPT-PAC is an integral part of OPTA’s efforts to promote the legislative interests of the physical therapy profession in Ohio These funds, comprised of voluntary, personal contributions are used by political candidates to defray campaign costs OPTA strategically contributes to the campaigns of Ohio legislators who listen, understand and vote in favor of supporting the advancement of the physical therapy profession The OPT-PAC enables us to pool our resources to increase the impact of our contributions to candidates Political Action Committees provide a vehicle for a united voice— physical therapists will be heard and respected Each dollar you give carries far greater weight than if you contributed to a candidate on your own
