2- FRUCTUS ANISI (Anise Fruit)

Anise, Anis vert, Anice, Anis.
Syn.: Anisuln , Aniseed, Anise fruits, Yansoon.

Anise is the dried ripe fruits of Pimpinella anisum L., family Umbelliferae.
It contains not more than 3 % of foreign organic matter and yields not less than
1.5% v/w of volatile oil.

The plant is indigenous to Egypt, Greece and Turkey but now cultivated in
Russia, Spain, and Bulgaria.

Anise occurs as entire cremocarps with the pedicels attached but partly
separated into its mericarps. The cremocarp is ovoid conical. Pear-shaped, greyish-
