                             Myrrh ‫مر البطارخ‬

Chemical tests:

1- With the vapor of bromine a violet color is given by the genuine myrrh.

2- On addition of few drops of nitric acid a purplish violet color is produced.

3- Test for Gum fraction: oxidase enzyme test.

                             Asafoetida ‫الحلتيت‬

* Odour: strong alliaceous.                     * Taste: bitter, acrid and alliaceous.

Chemical tests:

1- Place a drop of sulphuric acid on the freshly fractured surface of a tear of asafoetida, a
bright red or reddish-brown color is produced changing to violet on washing with water.

2- The freshly fractured surface assumes a green color when touched with nitric acid
(diluted with equal volume of water).
