There are so many types of mentalities, such as crabs in basket, thug mentality, laager
mentality, mamba mentality, silo mentality, prosperity mentality. What is your
mindset?
Crabs in a Basket Mentality- If I can not have it, neither can you is the attitude. Your
efforts are undermined by other people’s mindset. They try to break someone else’s spirit
when they see them on their way to success. People with crab in basket mentality see others
advancing, they subconsciously or consciously try to hold individuals back.
Thug Mentality- A real one (person) that never folds. The mentality of a thug consists of a
“gang, clicks and gangsta life” (Urban Dictionary, 2019). A thug is as an individual who
commits crimes such as stealing, selling drugs and violent crimes.
Laager Mentality- When an individual is not willing to accept new ideas. Individuals with
Laager Mentality have defensive and polarized discussion and thoughts.
Mamba Mentality – is the mindset of constantly trying to become the best version of
oneself. The constant quest to become greater then you were yesterday. “We do not quit, we do
not cower, we do not run. We endure and conquer. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, find the silver lining and get
to work with the same belief drive and conviction as ever… Mamba out” stated Kobe Bryant. RIP to
Kobe Bryant and all that died in that terrible accident. This was written before their
transition.
Silo Mentality- the reluctance to share information with others. The silo mentality reduces
efficiency and could damage the culture of an organization or industry.
Prosperity Mentality - Moving from the surviving mode to prosperity mode or
consciousness. The prosperity mentality is abundance thinking. The belief there is
opportunity everywhere. The mentality of how much can I acquire? Change from the
spending to saving and investing mentality
Most people get paid 26 times a year or the agreed upon time per year. How many
times per week, per month, per year do you think about money? What is your mentality
surrounding money? Does your money mentality reflect your standard of life in positive or
negative way? Most people may agree more than 26 times per year they think about money.
It doesn’t matter how much money you acquire just what you do with the money! Or How
you make your money work for you. Becoming a professional consumer should not become
an option. If you work a 9 to 5 job and you are an employee than most likely you get paid 26
times a year. Every two weeks you receive wages from your job. Are you fornate enough to
get paid once a month like myself. During my tenure at Lincoln University, I got paid once a
month. I received a paycheck 12 times a year. The salary from the university did not reflect
my experience, education or degrees. Ever heard the saying “we beg for what we need and
get what we want”. Most can admit they only think about money when needed. When you
don’t have the money what will you do for the money? What have you done for money?
