Regiment of Artillery Association
Regiment of Artillery Association
he Association is registered under the Society’s Registration Act 1860
T and the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. A total of 17,546 officers and
47,5208 JCOs and Other Ranks are the members of the Regiment of
Artillery Association. Every gunner, whether an officer, JCO or OR is
eligible to the membership. However, only Young Officers and Recruits
may now join the Association, as membership to others who had not
exercised their option in time has been closed.
RAA also sanctions budgetary allo-
cations for the ensuing year as per the budget proposal presented
by Chairman Finance Committee after ratification by Chair-
man Executive Committee. The President is empowered to take ur-
gently required decisions on the need basis, which will be forward-
ed to the Governing Body for approval.
The welfare measures of the Association are fully related to
the needs of the time. Besides financial assistance granted to members in distress as medi-
cal assistance, it provides education grants to children. It also offers its members vocational training
in a variety of skills.
There are other facets of the Association, such as its role in promoting adventure, and the lesser
but no less important aspect of administration of the assets of the Association, meeting needs of the
Station Artillery Messes (an innovation peculiar to the Gunners) and the stocking and supplying of
regimental wear. In such quiet, diverse and unobtrusive ways, the Association continues to build
bridges between the past and the present and into the future thus contributing in no small measure to
the cohesion within its membership and to the spirit of camaraderie in the Regiment, which after all is
its main purpose. What is more, to keep the Gunner family informed of the Regimental activities, it
brings out ‘The Artillery News’ through its own press. Deputy Commandant, Artillery Centre, Nasik
Road is the ex officio editor of this publication.
