Page 28 - Thank You First Responders!
P. 28
I want to thank all the first responders and public safety officers for the example they have
set for my daughter. She was my wife’s daughter from a previous marriage. She never knew
her biological father and as a result became a troubled teen, feeling like she never fit in. She got
into trouble during her high school years.
It was due to the examples set by our local police department, that she finally found
purpose in her life along with a sense of belonging. Upon graduating high school, she joined
the army and became an MP. She was decorated many times for her marksmanship, and I will
never forget the joy in her voice when she called me to say “Dad guess what? Do you remember
that jerk boyfriend I had? Well, he was driving drunk on base and gave me a bunch of lip, so I took
him down! It was great Dad, I had him on the ground and I cuffed him and took him in. It was so
awesome!”
After completing her years of service she came home, went to school for several years and
completed a degree in criminal justice.
If it had not been for the fine officers in our community, caring enough to find out
about her and her circumstances, she may never have learned that she “belongs” and can
accomplish anything she sets out to achieve. Thank you for giving her confidence, purpose,
and a sense of well being.
