MEMORIAL UNION DEFERRED MAINTENANCE AT ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY
The Memorial Union Deferred Maintenance project, built for Arizona State University, included the renovation of a 38,750-square-foot student union located in Tempe, AZ. The facility supports a commercial kitchen, a lounge for students, and 14 restrooms. The facility was constructed of a foundation comprised of slab-on-grade concrete, a structural frame of steel and concrete decks, an exterior of brick masonry, and a built-up roof. Renovations of the facility consisted of the demolition and replacement of kitchen exhaust hoods, staff offices, a bowling alley, removal of structural walls and wood flooring, installation of new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and the new construction of a CMU elevator shaft. Interior finishes included terrazzo floors, custom framed mirrors, glass wall partitions, and architectural wood planking. The project also features elevators, group meeting spaces, storage rooms, and meditation rooms. This project achieved LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for sustainable building products, water efficiency, enhanced energy performance, and diversion of waste material. The Memorial Union Deferred Maintenance project provided recreation amenities and collaborative workspaces for students and campus visitors.
