TRIbuTE - GEORGE OCTAVE ( FRIEnD)
Read by Michaela Williams
I met Hurbert in the 70’s, I was 15 and my father gave me some money to put a bet on.
Another day, I was outside the betting shop waiting for someone to come along and put a bet on for me. Yes, it was Hurbert again and from that day until this
day we became good friends.
I lived in Hockwell Ring so did Hurbert, years later I moved to Lewsey farm so did Hurbert every year without fail Christmas Eve Hurbert would knock the door with a bottle of brandy and a packet of cigarette for my wife. I called him JR from the program Dallas and reason being if you were stuck for cash Hurbert and his wife would help us out.
Hurbert played a big part in my life and often gave me advice, he had a great sense of humour and loved a good joke, flutter on the horses and a little shot now and then.
You would see Hurbert at the crack of Dawn walking his dogs, I shall miss him dearly and so shall many others.
Hurbert favourite saying was “George when your time is up, it up and you got to go.” Rest in peace, my dearest friend, until we meet again.

1 Corinthians 13:1-7
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
