Australia, and would not be able to go back, because as soon as he stepped off a
train, bus or plane, he would be arrested. He seemed to enjoy my company and
used to spend the evenings in my caravan sharing a beer. When I left, he gave me a
couple of Four-ex’s (a Queensland beer) as a parting gift which touched me deeply
as it seemed to indicate that I had made a successful emotional contact with him in
some way.

I was only there a week, before Bev told me that there was a job waiting for me at
home. The day I left I was able to pick up off the ground enough pears and even a
few peaches to fill the boot of my car. So even though I only earned about $100 for
the week, I salvaged a small amount with this bootfull of fruit.

Looking back, I’ve certainly had a variety of experiences with odd jobs. They weren’t
all successful financially, but each one in their own way, has added something to my
spiritual pilgrimage and made me a better person.
