The Basic Law prescribes the systems to be practised in
the HKSAR, to ensure the implementation of the basic policies of the People's Republic of China regarding Hong Kong, and protects the fundamental rights and freedoms of residents.

The Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the HKSAR (the "National Security Law")
The National Security Law is
a historic step to improve the system in the HKSAR for safeguarding national sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
It helps uphold "One Country, Two Systems" and restore stability in society. It aims to prevent, suppress and punish the following offences endangering national security and only targets an
extremely small minority of persons: v Secession
v Subversion
v Organisation with a foreign country or external elements to endanger national security
v Collusion with a foreign country or external elements to endanger national security
