  Content management and updatation of the Website
The VP website is dynamic, and the content is being updated regularly. In the year 2019-20, a total of approximately four thousand files, which includes knowledge products and resource materials developed by VP, have been uploaded regularly. Forty-two new pages created and uploaded on the website.
This site presently hosts more than 20 GB of content and records an average hit-rate of more than 10,000 hits per month. There has been a 23.66% increase in the hit-rate lately.
Online Order of Books/CDs DVD/ Activity Kits: In the last financial year, a total of 905 books/CDs were sold through the online platform.
Science and Technology Digital Communication and Social Media Activities
The digital media communication strategy has been developed by Vigyan Prasar for Department of Science and Technology (DST). This is with a view to highlighting and showcasing the achievement of DST in the field of S&T. This includes the development of content, achievement stories, content for DST website, handling of DST’s events, media coverage and social media network.
During the period VP has written, edited, and developed content in form of news items, reports, and features on S&T for the website. Besides providing the technical backup and and maintenance, regular uploading is the key feature to make the website dynamic. As a result, the website has received considerable visibility.
The social media activities have been enhanced through Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. The outreach through social media has taken momentum and projected the department’s dynamism in the public domain. The number of followers on Twitter and Facebook are around 60,000. At present the communication cell is working on special stories about autonomous institutions and the significant R&D and innovation work carried out by them. The cell is also working on reports of impacts created by DST projects on the ground in terms of beneficiaries.
Vigyan Prasar has initiated various projects in last financial years such as Vigyan Samachar, Curiosity, Bigyan Katha (Bengla monthly newsletter), Tajassus (Urdu monthly newsletter), Kuthuhali (Kannada monthly newsletters), Ariviyal Palagai (Tamil monthly newsletter) and S&T efforts on COVID-19. The programme and features of each project are regularly updated.
