  Broadcast of completed radio serial on community radio (C.R.)
More than 15 community radio stations have shown interest to broadcast the already broadcast serial. The audio files of the serial on the theme “Understanding Disaster and Mitigation Thereof” have been sent to the C.R.s. Each C.R. station will maintain a logbook of the broadcast schedule and send a quarterly report of the same to VP as per the undertaking submitted.
New radio serial on theme ‘Artificial Intelligence’
The groundwork, like the compilation of basic information, content finalisation, sequencing and the synopsis writing has already been done. The new radio serial on A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) will have 52 episodes, out of which 8-9 will be interactive, based on the queries of the listeners to be answered by subject experts. Depending upon the theme, the serial will use different formats like docudrama, feature, reportage, discussion with experts, and interview at site with various stakeholders.
Review of Radio Programmes of Vigyan Prasar
To review all existing/ongoing audio/radio programme of Vigyan Prasar, a review meeting was organised on 3 March 2020. The review done was with a view to check the validity/relevance/ future scope in terms of its delivery/resources/ scope of work/finances/modus operandi and other related issues. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Manoj K. Patairiya, Head, NCSTC. The Committee appreciated the efforts being made by Vigyan Prasar in using radio as a means of communication in taking science to people at the grassroots level.
The committee recommended the continuity and consolidation of the ongoing programmes with AIR. The committee was of the view that the other forms of radio like
community radio, commercial radio (F.M.) and internet radio, podcast and technology like Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) may be utilised to increase the reach of the scientific content to the listeners. The mega serials broadcast earlier may be available on the Gyan Vani, VP website/ or through internet radio and apps.
Other important recommendations include hiring of technology experts, consultants and advisor for optimal utilisation of the potential of radio, joining hands with similar and like- minded organisations like NCSTC, etc. To train the communicators in audio content writing for different formats, some capacity building programmes may also be organised.
