India International Science Festival (IISF)-2019
Vigyan Prasar in association with Ministries of Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, Health & Family Welfare and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA) organised the India International Science Festival during 5-8 November 2019 at Kolkata. Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India entrusted the work to Vigyan Prasar as a nodal organization for this mega event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2019 on 5 November 2019, with the message that Science should not just be inventive but also innovative and research, not only influential but also inspirational.
Over 12,000 registered participants from India and abroad participated in 28 events at Kolkata in the following venues- Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Science City, Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Bose Institute and Indian Institute of Chemical Biology.
Before the IISF a series of press conferences, media events and awareness programmes involving various stakeholders in different parts of the country.
As part of IISF 2019, the following 28 events were organised:
World Record Attempt
The first record was set on the opening day (5 November 2019) when 1,598 school students
attended a class on astrophysics and assembled working models of spectroscopes using discarded CDs and ordinary cardboard boxes. The second record was set on 7 November when 268 students successfully assembled radio transmitter kits from scratch. The event was held under the category of “Largest number of people assembling radio transmitters simultaneously at a single place” In all, 490 students participated, 280 kits were evaluated,
