The Technology Development Board (TDB) was constituted by the Government of India, under the Technology Development Board Act, 1995, as a statutory body of the
Department of Science and Technology, to promote development and commercialization of indigenous technologies and adaptation of imported technologies for wider application.
The legacy of TDB is fascinating.
Its founder members have not only contributed to its growth but also to
the development of India. Prof VS Ramamurthy was the first Chairman
of the board and SB Krishnan its first Secretary. TDB had the honour of the legendary missile man of India and
Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on its first board as well.
The other legends who were part of the board were Padma Vibhushan and Star of Asia awardee
Dr RA Mashelkar, former DG CSIR who headed
the world’s largest chain of laboratories; Professor R Narasimha, ISRO distinguished professor and Bhatnagar Prize awardee; and, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr Ashok S Ganguly, former Director, Unilever-UK.

to invest into Venture Capital Fund to focus on innovative technologically viable projects covering all sectors.

TDB recognized the need to provide financial support to Technology
Business Incubators (TBIs) and Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Parks (STEPs) to incubate and bring to fruition innovative technology venture ideas. Therefore, it provided seed support funds

to Technology Business Incubators for start-ups wherein early stage financial assistance is provided to the young.
INTERLINKING TECHNOLOGY COMMERCIALIZATION
WITH R&D AND FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS
To ascertain sustainability in development, cross-weaving between research institutions
and enterprises was of immense importance. To achieve this, TDB connected with various R&D and financial institutes of national and international repute. Additionally, TDB has actively engaged various industrial organizations like CII, FICCI, PHDCCI, and ASSOCHAM to scout for companies needing assistance towards commercialization
of technologies. In order to restructure the
global pattern of production and trade in a significant manner, TDB extended networking
ECOSYSTEM
TDB has supported a large number of seasoned and
first-time entrepreneurs over the years. Besides the mandate
