Journal of Science Education – was launched in 1996. The journal focuses on enriching the processes of teaching and learning science thereby stimulating science education in the country.
Summer Research Fellowship Programme: This is a unique programme initiated by the academy in 1995 that provides college teachers and students exposure to research in premier institutions of India, under the mentorship of a Fellow of the three science academies. Fellowships are provided to a set of students and teachers selected from a large number of applicants to travel to various research institutions and carry out research for two months
in the summer.
Refresher Courses and Lecture Workshops:
The fellowship of the science academies, often in collaboration with other eminent scientists,
are encouraged and provided financial support to organize refresher courses that aim to help motivated teachers improve their knowledge and teaching skills. Similarly, the joint Science
Education Panel of the three academies provides support to help improve knowledge on specific
topics through short-term lecture workshops. The refresher courses and lecture workshops have been held in various institutions of the country, especially in less endowed institutions and under- represented regions.
Fellows’ Residency and Teaching Facility: To facilitate students with hands-on experimental work, the academy purchased land in Jalahalli, Karnataka, in 2003, and constructed two buildings with 60 rooms to accommodate students and teachers, classrooms and an experimental laboratory.
Defining and Helping Uphold Scientific Values:
Beyond general ethical principles, such as honesty and fairness, every profession has a set of specific ethical principles that guide the conduct of their work. Guidelines are required on modalities of adherence to these principles. The academy’s panel on scientific values prepared detailed guidelines in 2018, that encompass ethical conduct of research and publishing scientific results, respect of gender equity, interacting with public and disseminating scientific knowledge, administering science
and mechanisms for regulating and penalising
