        PIONEERING A NEW FUTURE 57
SCIENCE POPULARIZATION Informing and educating the ultimate stakeholders, the public, has been an important activity of INSA and it interfaces with society through several of its programmes, including lectures, books, and seminars.
INSA Anniversary Meetings: Every December INSA holds its anniversary meeting in different parts of the country by rotation.
   Prof. Chandrima
– Innovation in Pursuit in Inspired Research & Education (INSPIRE), Faculty Fellowship Award for young scientists. INSA also participates
in inter-academy refresher courses, lectures, workshops and training for teachers.
INSA-SERB Initiative on Future Scoping
and Capacity Augmentation for Sustainable Futures: In this programme initiated in 2020 with Science and Engineering Research Board, three activities are planned: Future Calling Initiatives
to support intense workshops and discussions to create blueprints for bold and disruptive solutions to catapult India as a leader in STEM; R&D Hotspot Initiative will enable fellows of INSA to mentor scientists to create and develop new R&D hotspots; Scientific Social Responsibility Program aims to develop interfaces and confidence of society in science with specific aim to address rural and urban S&T imbalance and raising scientific temper in the society with the motto Think-like-a-Scientist.
ETHICS, GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN IN SCIENCE Women in Science: Inter-Academy Panel: INSA places a high value on the active role of women in science. INSA also participates in the Inter-Academy Panel, which works towards devising ways to bring more woman-scientists in academics and create opportunities for their betterment.
Ethics in Science: Inter-Academy Panel: The Inter-Academy Panel of Science Academies works towards developing ethical conduct in science, and helps students and the faculty to understand the nuances of ethical conduct, ranging from publications and plagiarism to conduct relating
to the aspects of gender bias. INSA developed
the code of ethics for animals, which is now in countrywide use. A book on Ethics in Science, Education, Research and Governance highlights these code of ethics.
INFORMATICS AND DATA SCIENCE
The computer centre, library and INSA archives form the core of INSA’s Informatics Centre. The National Digital Library hosts INSA’s proceedings, namely, PINSA and two journals published
by INSA-Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IJPAM) and the Indian Journal of History of Science (IJHS). The library houses about 18,000 books and 350 journals including journals received under the exchange programmes.
INSA PUBLICATIONS
History of Science: A History of Science Board, with Prof. AC Ukil, a past president of INSA,
as its Chairman, was initiated at the Asiatic Society, Kolkata in 1960. In 1965, the National Commission for History of Science was formed on the recommendation of the board and Prof. HJ Bhabha’s discussion with the then Education Minister, Justice MC Chagla. The commission supports research programmes, seminars, workshops and publishes Indian Journal of History of Science.
INSA publishes three open access scientific journals: The Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy (PINSA), The Indian Journal
of Pure & Applied Mathematics (IJPAM), and Indian Journal of History of Science (IJHS).
INSA has tied up with Springer-Nature India (SNI) to copublish these journals and books to ensure easy accessibility internationally. INSA has also been publishing numerous books of contemporary interest in diverse areas related to science. •
Lectures
in Remote
Areas:
