technologies were transferred to the industry. The institute also collaborates with many medical device industries and national institutes. The institute has a Technology Business Incubator called SCTIMST- Timed to support startups in medical device and healthcare sector (a ‘Make in India’ concept) and an Industry Institute Partnership Cell for conducting training programmes for industry personnel.
Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies: The Achutha Menon Centre for HealthScience Studies (AMCHSS) is the
Health Sciences division of SCTIMST. It was conceptualizedinareportbytheeminenteconomist KN Raj, and was envisioned to develop into a centre of excellence and fill the gap in India with regard
to research in areas linked to health policy, such as health economics, epidemiology, bio-statistics and health technology assessment. Named after
former Chief Minister of Kerala, C Achutha Menon, AMCHSS was founded in 1992 recognizing that efficient, compassionate and affordable health
care is not possible without a sound knowledge
of medical economics, region-specific sociology and modernmanagement of health care. Its vision of publichealth is an inclusive one, welcoming studentsfrom a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds,including AYUSH, and enriching the discipline through their diverse expertise. It started its academic teaching programme, which now includes DPH, MPH and PhD programmes, in January 1997. AMCHSS has pioneered researchintodiverseareasofpublichealth,
such as non-communicable diseases, gender
in health, sexual and reproductive health, environmental issues, technology, policy,
and equity in health over the last two
decades.
