The Technology Policy Statement 1983 of the Government of India highlighted the need to undertake technology forecasting and assessment studies on
a systematic and continuing basis. Accordingly, on the recommendations of the cabinet and with the concurrence of Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (SAC-PM),
Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) was instituted as an autonomous registered society under the Department of Science of Technology in February, 1988.
MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS & SUCCESS STORIES Technology Vision 2020
• Released by Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda in
1988; it covered 17 sectors in 25 volumes. • Dreamt of a developed India by 2020.
Technology Vision 2035
• Released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016. • Targets to fulfil aspirations of Indians in 2035.
• Followed by the release of Technology Roadmaps
in key sectors.
TECHNOLOGY VISION 2020
Technology Demonstration Projects were launched in the following sectors:
Food & Agriculture: Focused technology demonstration to increase productivity, primary processing and value addition, protected cultivation and resource optimization in Bihar, Odisha, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Sikkim.
Agro-food Processing: The project was undertaken to increase clean milk yield by
9-20%, reduction of bacterial count from over 1 crore cfu/ml to about 1 lakh cfu/ml and genetic improvement of dairy livestock. As a result, clean- milk production increased significantly and embryo transfer (ET) technology for Indian dairy livestock was established and standardized.
Healthcare: The intent was healthcare delivery at doorstep in Uttarakhand – through mobile hospital.
Road Construction and Transportation Equipment:
To upgrade manufacturing capability and to reduce imports of equipments and some equipments were
