Technology Missions
Technology Roadmaps: Seven Technology Roadmaps were released during 2016-19, which chalked out a path for achieving the vision.
Impact
New Education Policy – 2020, SAMARTH, ITS, ICT driven rural healthcare delivery, National Policy on Electronic 2019, Cyber Physical System and Quantum Computing, Desalinization technology and indigenous development of membrane and Thrust for Lithium, Silicon and Novel materials.
Fly Ash Mission:
• Waste to Wealth
• Technology intervention resulted in increase in
fly ash utilization from 3% (1994) to 50% (2007).
Industry Outreach
Advanced Composites Mission: Promotion of large-scale use of composites led to their extensive use in Indian Railways (Konkan Railway), tourism (houseboats in Kerala), road tankers and shelters in earthquake -affected areas (Bhuj, Gujarat). Sugar Technology Mission: Reduction in
cost of production with better efficiency and improvement, low sulfur production.
Technology Upgradation of Select MSME Clusters: The aim of the project was to reach
out to industrial clusters for technology and skill upgradation. TIFAC reached out to 46 clusters with 200 interns to sort the cluster problems. Clusters of high impact were: Ferrous Casting Units, Foundry Cluster, Howrah, Kolkata; Surgical Instruments Manufacturing Units Cluster, Baruipur, Kolkata; Readymade Garment Cluster, Tirupur, Tamil Nadu; Sari Cluster, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh; Food Processing Cluster, Malda, West Bengal; Kanaihaganj Jhula Cluster, Nalanda, Bihar; and, Plastic Cluster, Mumbai (Dharavi), Maharashtra.
Bioprocesses & Bioproducts: An Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) pilot plant was established at Pune. A report on ‘Estimating Generation and Surplus Amounts of Crop Residues in India’ with IARI was released in October 2018. The Centre for Biofuels, NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram was inaugurated in April 2012. BHUVAN JAIVOORJA, a geo portal, was launched in February 2020.
