The Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali, Punjab, an autonomous institution of Department of Science and Technology (DST),
Government of India, was established under the umbrella of Nano Mission, initiated by DST to boost research and development in the field of nano science and nanotechnology in India. INST started its activities on 3 January 2013. The
institute was earlier operating from its transit campus in Sector-64 and recently shifted to its permanent state-of-the-art campus at Knowledge City, Mohali.
INST brings together biologists,
chemists, physicists, materials
scientists and engineers with an interest in nano science and technology. The INST scientists with their strength in basic science combined with
more application-oriented mind and different backgrounds, work together as a cohesive unit
at the same time carry out their individual researches. INST is also promoting science and inculcating the practice to develop technology in India amongst the young generation through its outreach programmes, especially in rural, remote and under-served schools by delivering talks.
Through its various activities, INST is committed to contributing significantly to the national societal programmes, like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Swasth Bharat, Smart Cities, Smart Villages, supporting the strategic sector, Make in India and Clean & Renewable Energy
through scientific means by making use of technologies to address requirements of these programmes.
